Meet your Councillors & Staff

Councillors are either elected on a four-yearly basis by residents of their ward or co-opted when a vacancy occurs and take no financial compensation.

They play a vital role in shaping policy, making important decisions about the Council’s budget, and overseeing how the Council operates. Councillors are supported by council officers (staff) are responsible for implementing the Council’s decisions.

Your councillors are here to support you. If you’re dissatisfied with a Council service, they can provide advice or guide you to the right person to help resolve the issue. They are champions for local concerns and are dedicated to representing your interests.

As community leaders, councillors work together to propose and deliver improvements for Clevedon. Their shared focus is on working collaboratively in the best interests of the town.

How to Become a Councillor

If you’re interested in becoming a member of Clevedon Town Council, you must meet the following criteria:

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of any other member state of the European Union.

Additionally, you must meet at least one of these four qualifications:

1. You are registered as a local government elector for the parish where you wish to stand, from the day of your nomination onwards.
2. You have occupied, as owner or tenant, land or premises in the parish during the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election.
3. Your main or only place of work during the 12 months prior to the day of your nomination and the day of election has been in the town.
4. You have lived in the town or within three miles of it during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election.
